Behold the Kickmen
Playtime: 5.5 hours
This is not a game I enjoyed.
While the premise might seem intriguing at first, the gameplay quickly becomes monotonous and repetitive. The fun fades fast as you realize that the mechanics don’t evolve much throughout the game.
As you progress, the gameplay just starts feeling dull and uninteresting. The core mechanics could have used more depth and variety to keep things engaging. It's one of those games where you start off having fun but soon realize that there's little else to offer beyond the basic gameplay loop.
The difficulty curve is another major issue. As you move further into the game, the difficulty ramps up significantly. It’s not that the game becomes more challenging in a fair way; rather, it feels like you’re forced to grind excessively just to stay on par with the increasingly difficult teams. Instead of feeling rewarded for skill and progression, I found myself slogging through repeated matches to unlock new abilities or improve stats, which felt more like a chore than an enjoyable challenge.
The story, while present, doesn’t do much to keep you invested. Even the game itself seems to acknowledge this by giving you the option to skip the story entirely, which, frankly, I ended up doing. It’s not that the story is inherently bad, but it just isn’t worth looking at. There was no real emotional connection to anything going on, and it didn’t seem to add any meaningful context to the gameplay.
Ultimately, this is a game that I just didn’t connect with. While there may be some who enjoy it, for me, it fell flat on multiple fronts. If you're looking for a game with deep gameplay mechanics, engaging challenges, or a compelling story, Behold the Kickmen is not the game for you. You can easily skip this one and find something more entertaining and rewarding elsewhere.
